Hello and Welcome to my very first Health and Lifestyle Blog!
I’m Christie, a fully qualified Doctor, specialising in General Practice and Lifestyle Medicine. Alongside being a Doctor, I have also qualified as a Physiotherapist and Acupuncturist.
I am passionate about food, health and wellbeing and hope to be able to promote the importance of healthy eating, exercise, stress reduction and rest in disease prevention, through my blog posts, workout videos and recipe ideas.
From a young age I have always loved keeping active and being healthy – I started dancing at the age of 3 and continued right up into my 20’s, dancing most nights of the week and at weekends. I kept it up during both of my degrees and although my passion is still there, I have found it difficult to keep it up to a good level. Instead I’ve discovered lots of different forms of exercising which I find as equally rewarding; yoga, pilates, high intensity interval training workouts (HIIT), rebounding, weights training and jogging.
I’ll share some of my workout videos on this blog for you to enjoy!
Healthy eating has obviously been ingrained in me from a young age as well – my family still remind me how annoying I was as a young child on holiday to Disney – I would refuse to eat the fat laden burgers, pizzas, chips and doughnuts (literally the only things on the menu), only wanting the healthy options such as salads, vegetables and fruit which were clearly hard to come by!
My love for healthy eating and healthy cooking has continued throughout my life – my friends at University used to joke with me that I would always be eating stuffed aubergines, quinoa salads and mackerel when everyone else would be eating baked beans and pasta bake! I may not be a chef, but I really do enjoy cooking, so I’ll be sharing some of my recipes and meals on this blog for you to enjoy!
As a GP, I find myself offering lots of lifestyle advice to my patients; how to eat right, be more active, how to reduce stress and rest well. I love talking about healthy living and try to encourage my patients to adopt this lifestyle to try and prevent them from developing potentially preventable diseases, such as Type 2 Diabetes, cardiovascular disease and obesity.
I hope to be able to share some of these pieces of advice with you. Even if it’s just encouraging people to eat a little more healthily or be a bit more active, I’ll be happy!
I hope you enjoy it.
